Bill enjoys family life in Bellingham and Whatcom County. His adult children graduated from Bellingham schools and another is an Everson restaurant owner. He is a professional planner (48 years), including 6 as the Bellingham Planning Director, and in private practice since 1991. His clients include private owners and businesses that invested over $500 million in Bellingham & Whatcom County. Public sector experience included serving on the Alaska Ferry Task Force that secured the Alaska Ferry in Bellingham, and as a consultant to local Fire Districts. Bill has served as an expert witness in planning and land use in the US Federal District Court and Superior Courts in Whatcom, Skagit, Island and King counties.
Bill Geyer successfully lead major fundraising efforts including $5,000,000 for the Bellingham Food Bank and $500,000 for the Bloedel Donovan swimming docks on Lake Whatcom. He guided clients to preserve over 50 acres of private open space in Bellingham, created wetland mitigation sites, and is the owner of 1.2 acres of an open space preserve on Barkley Blvd. He is a Past-President and Board member of the Bellingham Bay Rotary Club, Paul Harris Award Recipient, and Pinnacle for Service Award recipient. Bill was recognized as a "Housing Hero" by Lydia Place for assisting their expansion project. Bill is active in his church, neighborhood, and advocates for affordable housing solutions. Every weekend is happily filled with grandkid activities in local parks, lakes and trails.
